latest company news about The 6.67-inch flexible AMOLED and glasses-free 3D OLED segments

In the first half of 2026, the global display technology sector has witnessed pivotal breakthroughs. The 6.67-inch flexible AMOLED and glasses-free 3D OLED segments have simultaneously achieved industrialization milestones, propelling the LCD TFT and OLED industries into a new era.
Recently, DFRobot officially launched a 6.67-inch flexible AMOLED module for developers and industrial applications. Built on a polyimide (PI) substrate, the module is merely 1.2mm thick, featuring a 2400×1080 (2.4K) resolution, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, 450 nits brightness, and a 50Hz refresh rate. It can withstand multiple bends without damage. Equipped with a MIPI-to-HDMI driver board for plug-and-play functionality, it is compatible with Raspberry Pi, LattePanda, and other development platforms, and has been mass-produced for smart wearables, curved automotive displays, and smart home terminals. Industry insiders note that as the golden size for smartphones and portable devices, the mass production of 6.67-inch flexible screens will accelerate the replacement of traditional rigid LCD TFT panels, driving a over 30% cost reduction in medium-sized flexible displays.
In the glasses-free 3D domain, Samsung’s collaborative research with South Korea’s Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) on switchable 2D/3D OLED technology has reached a landmark milestone, with findings published in Nature. At its core lies the Metasurface Lenticular Lens, a 1.2-micron-thick ultra-thin optical layer. It enables one-click 2D/3D mode switching via voltage control: 2D mode delivers high-resolution flat imagery, while 3D mode uses nano-optical structures to refract light, creating a dizziness-free, wide-viewing-angle (up to 85°) stereoscopic experience without 3D glasses or additional tracking hardware. The technology has been adapted for smartphone OLED panels, with mass production targeted for late 2026, initially launching in flagship smartphones, gaming monitors, and automotive HUD displays.
Chinese panel manufacturers are ramping up their efforts. BOE announced that its 8.6th-generation AMOLED production line will commence mass production in mid-2026, focusing on the 6–8 inch flexible screen market with R&D priorities on glasses-free 3D and high-refresh-rate technologies. Tianma Microelectronics unveiled its next-generation NFT (New Fluorescence Technology) AMOLED panels at CES 2026, covering the BT.2020 color gamut and providing a high-color-purity foundation for glasses-free 3D applications. Counterpoint Research data indicates that the global flexible OLED market will reach $48 billion in 2026, with glasses-free 3D OLED shipments expected to exceed 120 million units. Chinese manufacturers will capture a 40% market share in medium-sized flexible displays36氪.
With improved yield rates for 6.67-inch flexible screens and the commercialization of glasses-free 3D technology, the boundaries between LCD TFT and OLED industries are blurring, with flexibility and stereoscopic display emerging as core competitive advantages. Industry forecasts predict that by 2027, the global penetration rate of 6.67-inch flexible screens will exceed 50%, and glasses-free 3D OLED will become a standard feature in mid-to-high-end smart devices, driving the display industry’s full upgrade from "flat HD" to "immersive 3D."
